Friends and family can now follow their favorite cruising vessels from anywhere they can get internet access. This is the iBoattrack Cruising Boats website, and we are happy to bring you and your family this service. The costs are reasonable and the rewards are priceless.
We have been having fun tracking boats since 1999 when we asked some friends to take our trackers along with them on the Marion to Bermuda Race. It was such a success that we have expanded our services every year since. We now track a number of cruisers and look forward to adding more friends to our ever growing list.

April 18, 2008 - Bowdoin - The Maine Maritime Academy's Historic Arctic Schooner will embark on a two-month journey to Greenland on June 1, 2008. The Bowdoin is an 88 ft. Wooden hull Gaff Schooner built during the winter of 1920-21. According to the Maine Maritime Academy website, the vessel is listed in the National Register of Historic Places (official number 221251). The Bowdoin's voyages are strictly educational and support MMA programs ranging from Sail Training to Marine Biology to Marine Transportation Operations.
"On April 9, 1921, a schooner came down the ways at Hodgdon Brothers in East Boothbay, Maine, one schooner within a long line of schooners, but unlike any other before or since. For the Bowdoin was built with an unusual mission, and cat-like, she has lived several lives...The schooner's design and construction were carefully considered and well-executed, although neither was radical for their day. The vessel is unique today because of her specialized purpose - she is heavy and carries less sail for her displacement than most schooners because, in addition to the obvious ice hazards, the Arctic is known for having either no wind at all or too much..."
More interesting history on Bowdoin can be found here: The_Arctic Schooner Bowdoin's History.
March 21, 2008 - Severance - A Tartan 34 owned and skippered by Scott Collins of Florida will be participating in the Atlantic Cruising Rally (ARC) from St. Augustine, FL to The Azores, taking place during the first week of May. After the ARC, Scott plans on cruising around Europe and the Mediterranean Sea, before heading back to Florida to prepare for and participate in the 2009 Regata del Sol al Sol. You can observe the progress and locations of Severance beginning in early April 2008.
January 22, 2008 - Spirit_of_South_Carolina - The South Carolina Maritime Foundation's sailing vessel the Spirit of South Carolina can be viewed during her educational voyages throughout the year. The vessel is a pilot schooner reminiscent of the Frances Elizabeth, a vessel that was originally built by the Samuel J. Pregnall & Bros. Shipyard in Charleston in 1879 and served pilots in the city's harbor for 25 years. Plans for the Frances Elizabeth, from which the new ship has been adapted, were found at the Smithsonian Institution within that organization's extensive collection.
The mission of the SC Maritime Foundation is "to offer effective, unique educational opportunities for the students of South Carolina, focusing on the history, math, science, and literature of South Carolina's water resources and encouraging personal responsibility, contribution to community and stewardship of environment."
Additional information about the SC Maritime Foundation and the Spirit of South Carolina can be found at www.scmaritime.org.
October 26, 2007 - Epiphany encounters distress - During a cruise from Bermuda to St. John's, Epiphany encountered a severe rudder malfunction coupled with engine difficulties. Braving 30-knot winds and 10-foot seas, Captain Ed Michaud activated his emergency beacon and was contacted by US Coast Guard personnel. The USCG requested the VLCC Atlantic Prosperity (70 nm away from the scene), owned by MOL Tankship Management, to rescue Capt. Michaud and his crew. Master of the Atlantic Prosperity, Capt. Damir Matulj, responded immediately and managed to rescue all of the men and safely transported the sailors to San Juan, Puerto Rico where they were met by USGC personnel.
After being rescued by the Atlantic Prosperity, Captain Ed and his crew had no choice but to abandon Epiphany over 200 nm away from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The vessel drifted for over two weeks and, using our system, Captain Ed was able to monitor her every move and pinpoint every location throughout the two weeks of drifting. When it was time to fetch Epiphany, Captain Ed knew exactly where to find her.
